Description

The Draenert Nobile 2072, designed by Gino Carollo, is a core leather dining chair built around an unusually freeing principle: a flex back that swings with the sitter. Launched in 2006, it delivers the responsive comfort more commonly associated with a cantilever chair within a four legged form. Fully sheathed in core leather from seat to leg, it carries contrast coloured backstitch seams as its defining visual signature.

Design Concept

Carollo’s starting point was a familiar tension in dining chair design: the more structured the frame, the less forgiving the seat. His answer was the flex back, a swinging backrest mechanism that moves intuitively with the body. Rather than softening the aesthetic in response, he doubled down on structure. Strict silhouette, robust leather surfaces and precisely stitched seam lines frame the chair like architectural detailing. The result reads as demanding and precise while performing with quiet, natural ease.

Core Leather Construction

The entire chair, seat, backrest and legs, is covered in core leather: the densely textured hide prized for its resilience and distinctive grain. Core leather ages well, developing character without losing structural integrity. The contrast coloured backstitch seams running along the outer edges are not decorative afterthoughts. They are fundamental to the chair’s character, giving the clean geometry a hand-finished warmth that reads clearly across a dining room.

The Flex Back Mechanism

The swinging backrest is the Nobile’s core engineering distinction. Unlike rigid dining chairs that resist movement, the flex back responds to the sitter’s posture with a gentle, spring like give. The effect is comparable to a cantilever chair, where continuous contact between the body and the seat is maintained throughout a meal. LGA certification confirms the mechanism’s suitability for both residential and commercial contract use.

Seam Stitching as Style Element

Draenert treats the backstitch seams of the Nobile 2072 as an expressive detail rather than a finishing necessity. Running in a single continuous line along the outer profile of the seat and back, the seams are available in contrast colour to the main hide or matched to it for a more tonal finish. This single decision significantly changes the visual weight of the chair, from graphic and bold to understated and monolithic.

Colour & Configuration Options

Available in 12 core leather colours, each configurable with matching or contrast seam stitching:

– Without armrests, core leather covered legs, 12 colour options with contrast or matching seam stitching

– With fully upholstered armrests, core leather covered legs, 12 colour options with contrast or matching seam stitching

– Dimensions: 49W x 55D x 87.5H cm, seat height 47.5 cm, seat depth 44 cm, armrest height 68 cm

Perfect For

– Dining rooms where material quality and tactile surface are central to the design brief

– Contract dining environments requiring LGA-certified commercial grade seating

– Interiors that pair structured, linear furniture with the warmth of natural hide

– Spaces built around strong graphic detail and artisan hand-finishing

– Owners who appreciate a seat that responds physically to how they sit

– Design-led hospitality settings where chairs double as a considered brand statement

The Nobile 2072 earns its position at the table through precision of both construction and concept. Core leather, strict geometry and a backrest that genuinely moves: a chair that carries no unnecessary weight.
