Minotti Orion outdoor modular sofa system

The Minotti Orion Outdoor, designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri and introduced as part of the 2026 Collection, translates the spatial logic of the indoor Orion system into a seating collection conceived for open-air living. Layered volumes and gently inclined linear surfaces create what Minotti describes as an elegant, contemporary presence within the landscape. Like the indoor version, it draws on the imagery of constellations: distinct elements arranged in patterns defined by orthogonal and oblique axes, producing ever-changing configurations from a repertoire of rectangular, square and trapezoidal modules.

Description

Design Concept

Tagliaferri’s compositional concept draws on John Lautner’s architectural research, in which elements relate as independent yet interconnected structures. Applied to the exterior, this produces a low, generous seating system whose interplay of surfaces introduces a visual rhythm that makes any arrangement feel dynamic and light. The design achieves a direct connection with its surroundings: close to the ground, expansive in footprint, and comfortable in the presence of both domestic gardens and hospitality landscapes.

Cushions & Detailing

The identity of the project comes through in the large seat cushions, distinguished by converging stitching that enhances their graphic presence. The backrest, simply placed on the seat, supports the horizontal reading of the layout and is finished with tone-on-tone double stitching in an envelope pattern, consistent with the indoor collection’s formal language. The cushion construction is designed for the demands of exterior use while maintaining the considered proportions of the indoor range.

Frame, Feet & Coffee Tables

Steel feet lift the volumes off the ground, reinforcing the sense of lightness and visual suspension that defines the Orion family. The feet are also available in a painted finish. The Orion Outdoor collection is completed by freestanding travertine coffee tables, available in different tones, designed to be placed between seats or in front of the sofa as material accents that strengthen the connection with the open-air setting.

Configurations

Available module types within the Orion Outdoor system:

– Rectangular, square and trapezoidal modules, outdoor upholstery specification

– Steel feet in standard or painted finish

– Freestanding travertine coffee tables in multiple tones, available as coordinated additions

– Suitable for both residential and hospitality exterior environments

Perfect For

– Garden terraces and open-air settings where indoor design quality is extended without compromise

– Hospitality exterior spaces requiring a modular seating system with strong architectural identity

– Designers specifying travertine and upholstered seating as complementary material accents in a garden setting

– Coastal, landscape and villa settings where a low, expansive seating composition reads naturally against the horizon
