Poliform Lanai bed system
Lanai begins from a simple question, why a bed should be only a bed. Conceived as a system rather than a single object, it opens the sleeping area to rest, reading, work and company. Soft, organic upholstery inspired by nature meets the straight lines of a dark wood frame, and the result marks Yabu Pushelberg’s first work for Poliform, a reconsideration of the bedroom itself.
Description
Design Inspiration & Philosophy
Where a bed is usually given over to sleep alone, Lanai opens it to far more, building up from a set of modular parts that layer like a landscape. Rounded, upholstered volumes sit against the discipline of straight lines and a lean timber frame, so softness and structure balance one another. The system is made to stand at the centre of the room rather than against a wall, a presence to be lived around.
More Than a Bed
Lanai is built to do more than hold a mattress. Around the sleeping area, modular elements layer together, a sofa integrated at the rear of the headboard and storage worked into the structure. The bedroom becomes a place to read, work or watch a film, used through the day rather than only at night. The parts combine to suit the room.
Form and Material
The design works through contrast. Generous, rounded upholstery, gentle to the touch and organic in shape, sits within the precise geometry of the wood, shown by Poliform in elm as “olmo nero”. The two registers, one natural and one geometric, hold each other in check, and the bed reads as composed rather than heavy. It anchors the room without overwhelming it.
System Elements
Lanai is conceived as a modular bed system, composed from coordinating elements.
– Upholstered bed with rounded, organic volumes and a slim timber frame
– Headboard and frame shown by Poliform in elm, in the finish “olmo nero”
– A sofa integrated at the rear of the headboard, adding seating to the bed
– Storage worked into the system for a self contained sleeping area
– Part of a wider Lanai collection that extends beyond the bed itself
– Cover materials, dimensions and full finishes confirmed through Poliform on specification
Perfect For
– A bedroom lived in through the day, not given over to sleep alone
– A light, airy interior, given weight and warmth by the dark elm frame
– A room of generous proportions, the bed standing at its centre
– An open plan apartment where the bed defines the sleeping quarter without a wall
– A principal suite composed as a retreat, richly layered in texture
– A hotel suite appointed as one piece, the bed, its seating and its storage together
Lanai treats the bed as the heart of a room for living, where rounded forms, clean lines and dark elm make the bedroom a place for far more than sleep.
