Brokis | Czech Glass Lighting Since 2006
Brokis manufactures handblown glass lighting combining traditional Bohemian craftsmanship with contemporary design. Jan Rabell, Czech entrepreneur and engineer, founded Brokis in 2006 as platform to revitalize Bohemian glassmaking and preserve generations of knowledge and craftsmanship. Rabell acquired Janštejn Glassworks in 1997, founded at start of 19th century approximately 140 kilometers southeast of Prague.Janštejn Glassworks Heritage
Janštejn Glassworks was founded in 1809 near village of Horní Dubenky in Bohemia's Vysočina Region. The glassworks upholds glassblowing tradition dating to end of 17th century. For over 200 years, the factory and generations of craftspeople endured three devastating fires, two world wars, and nationalization among greatest challenges. Janštejn Glassworks serves as largest production facility in region with artistry of master glassmakers dating back 216 years making it one of oldest continuously operating glassworks in Czech Republic.Brokis Production and Distribution
Brokis and Janštejn Glassworks employ total of 100 people. The symbiosis allows Brokis launching sales operations in 70 countries showcasing renowned lighting collections at world's top design exhibitions. Production facilities rooted in more than 200 years of history enable experimentation and development of innovative materials, techniques, and technologies offering bespoke lighting solutions. Night Birds collection required two years of experimentation perfecting complex technology producing imposing yet elegant curved glass silhouettes of birds in various phases of flight. Manufacturing combines handblown glass with refined materials including wood and manually pressed metal in bold lighting compositions pushing boundaries of contemporary design.Designer Collaborations
