MIAU TABLE BY GAM FRATESI

The Miau series started with armchairs which conceptualize a sculptural object made of solid wood, and the aim was to create something that feels incredibly pleasant to the touch. The table has a vigorous feeling appreciating fully the tactility of solid wood compared to the slim and sleek chair, however, sharing the same typology being contemporary. In addition, the sense of comfort and peacefulness when you touch the furniture can very well be equated with the experience and feeling you get when you gently caress a cat, as the name “Miau” symbolizes.

“We have designed the table for the Miau chair, with some of the beautiful craftsmanship and detail that goes from the legs. We like the contrast between the very thin structure of the chair and the much more solid and massiveness of the table. We think the two elements are working extremely well,” says GamFratesi.

The Miau table exudes a profound sense of solidity, utilizing the natural beauty of solid wood, while elegantly juxtaposing with the delicate Miau armchair to create a stunning visual contrast.

The Miau table, composed solely of its top and legs, showcases a seamless integration where the two elements meld together as one. To achieve this flawless connection between the tabletop and legs, meticulous precision in wood carving and high accuracy joining techniques were indispensably employed.

The legs are skillfully tapered from top to bottom, bringing out the captivating grain patterns by delicately shaving the solid wood. Through numerous prototypes, the manufacturer strived to strike the perfect balance between ensuring the table’s structural strength and preserving its aesthetic integrity, carefully determining the ideal thickness of the legs.

MIAU ARMCHAIR BY GAM FRATESI

Miau Armchair combines high precision of wood bending and wood carving techniques. The armrests and the backrest are made of a single bentwood, allowing the wood grain to become more uniform and beautiful, as well as more durable than if it had been constructed from separate pieces connected together. To ensure maximum sitting comfort, the wooden seat and backrest are curved three-dimensionally, whereas the upholstered cushion uses molded plywood curved and combined precisely with the seat pad.

EN CHAIR BY CECILIE MANZ

According to the designer, colors are important just as texture, finish, and wood type, as an object’s shape and appearance may change completely when changing the color. She also uses three-dimensional objects as a tool to select colors, which are alive with materiality, variation, and texture as well as time which is another tool that sometimes needs to grow on you.

The chair with a roundish seat and a back with a gentle curve contrasting beautifully with the simple loop frame. The three-dimensionally carved curved backrest gently holding the back is impressive and equally serene. With the perfect blending of sharpness and softness, you feel the warmth of craftsmanship. The gentle atmosphere that this round table radiates spreads all over connecting people and space with its warmth.
