Baxter Beki ottoman

Beki is the sectional leather ottoman designed by Christophe Delcourt for Baxter, a modular seating object with a sculptural presence and a practical intelligence built into its form. Each module connects to the next via magnets, so the configuration of any given arrangement can be changed, extended or entirely reimagined without tools or effort. Baxter describes Beki as ideal for furnishing art galleries and installations, and its river stone like form carries that gallery-ready authority.

Description

Design Concept

Delcourt drew the Beki modules from the silhouette of river stones: rounded, with irregular corners that suggest erosion and natural process rather than manufacture. The forms that result have no fixed front or back, no hierarchical orientation. They work in any combination, on any axis, which is precisely the point. Beki is a seating object that invites informal, social use. Baxter’s leather wraps each module in a single continuous surface that reinforces its sculptural, object-like quality.

Magnetic Modular System

The defining practical feature of Beki is its magnet-based connection system. Each module carries concealed magnets that align and hold adjacent pieces in position without fixing them permanently. The arrangement can be reconfigured freely, expanded for larger gatherings and reduced for quieter settings. This flexibility, combined with the visual weight of the leather covered forms, makes Beki as useful in a commercial installation context as it is in a private living room or entrance hall.

Module Sizes & Configurations

Beki is offered in three module footprints, each 45 cm in height, providing a consistent seating level across any combination:

– Square module, 45 x 45 x 45 cm / 17.5 x 17.5 x 17.5 inch, leather upholstery

– Rectangular module, 58 x 41 x 45 cm / 22.5 x 16 x 17.5 inch, leather upholstery

– Extended module, 99 x 42 x 45 cm / 38.5 x 16.5 x 17.5 inch, leather upholstery

– All modules connect via magnets, no tools required, full Baxter leather range available

Perfect For

– Art galleries, cultural spaces and installations where seating doubles as a visual object

– Living rooms and entrance halls where informal seating islands are preferred over fixed layouts

– Commercial and hospitality environments requiring versatile, reconfigurable leather seating

– Spaces where organic, stone like forms contrast with harder, more linear architectural surfaces

– Designers specifying modular seating that carries strong sculptural identity beyond its function

Beki is a seating object that performs equally well as furniture and as installation. Its magnets do the work. Its form does the rest.
