Edra Standway sofa
Soft, elegant and universal, Standway is classic and contemporary at the same time. Timeless. With the Smart Cushion, everyone can use it their own way, in form and in purpose, because the sofa is completely adaptable to the desires of its user. Sitting comfortably, with a simple, light pressure, the backrests and armrests can be moulded as desired. The name marks a further step on the pathway opened by Standard and continued by Standalto.
Description
Design Inspiration & Philosophy
Binfaré calls Standway the sofa, the essence of the image of a sofa, an ideal that resists description. He has always worked on the archetype and on beauty, which he considers one of the most elusive mysteries. The claim is bold and the object supports it. Where Standard proved the Smart Cushion and Standalto lifted the volume clear of the floor, Standway resolves both into a form that makes no visual argument at all. It simply looks like what a sofa ought to look like.
Smart Cushion and Gellyfoam
The Smart Cushion answers slight movements of the body, so backrests and armrests lose their stiffness and take whatever shape the moment calls for, low, high, oblique or enveloping. Gellyfoam, Edra’s patented padding, sits behind that softness and stops it collapsing over time. The technology is invisible from the outside. Nothing on the surface signals that anything is happening, which is precisely the intention.
Rounded Feet and Proportion
Standway floats on visible rounded feet, the detail that separates it from its two predecessors and gives the volume lightness at floor level. Compositions run from a two or three seater through to larger linear or curved arrangements, with a chaise longue armchair and a daybed extending the range. Seat depths and backrest widths vary across the elements, so proportion can be tuned to the room rather than imposed on it.
The Covering
Standway is covered in an ideal fabric, substantial, solid and soft, developed under Monica Mazzei to fall gracefully across a small sofa and a large combination alike. Colour variants run through anthracite and the grey register, which keeps the piece quiet enough for a historical interior and clean enough for a modern one. Covers are technically removable.
Composition Options
Standway is configured through element, proportion and covering.
– Two and three seater sofas in linear form
– Larger linear or curved compositions
– Chaise longue armchair and daybed elements
– Variable seat depths and backrest widths
– Gellyfoam padding with the Smart Cushion throughout
– Full bodied soft fabrics in anthracite and grey variants
Perfect For
– Clients who want Edra comfort without a sculptural silhouette
– Historic apartments where a radical form would fight the architecture
– Designers needing one sofa that suits almost any scheme
– Contract and hospitality settings requiring durability and calm
– Households where several people sit in very different ways
– Buyers entering Edra from a conventional upholstery brand
Binfaré treats Standway as his last word on the subject. By his own reckoning it wins only if it is liked, and it is liked because it is a beautiful sofa.
