Peer treats Lucile as a study in controlled complexity: a table that can be configured with open compartments, drawers or a combination of both, and yet reads from a distance as a single resolved volume. The 45 degree bevel is the device through which this is achieved, giving the table’s profile its precise graphic identity while simultaneously marking the transition between solid surface and open recess. Lucile is available in square, rectangular and octagonal forms. The square and rectangular versions sit on a recessed steel base with a polished chrome finish, which lifts the volume off the floor and enhances the piece’s sense of lightness. When positioned in front of a sofa, the table uses a matt black metal support element in place of the chrome base, a considered shift in material that marks the sofa-facing configuration as distinct.
