Minotti Orion armchair

The Minotti Orion Armchair, designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri as part of the 2026 Collection, carries the full design vocabulary of the Orion seating system into a single-seat form. Overlapping volumes, unexpected geometric cuts and the interplay of orthogonal and oblique axes define a piece that occupies space with the same freedom and spatial confidence as the wider Orion family. Like the sofa system, it draws on a subtle reference to constellations, where independent elements are arranged according to an order both rigorous and fluid.

Description

Design Language

Tagliaferri’s Orion Armchair embodies the same design ethos as the system from which it comes: rigour coexisting with supple elegance, inspired by the fluidity of diagonal forms and the rhythm of tilted surfaces. Echoes of John Lautner’s architecture are present in the spatial vision, where each element relates to the room as an autonomous micro-architecture rather than a piece subordinate to its surroundings. The result is what Minotti calls a quiet manifesto of elegant, fluid and unconventional living, concentrated in a single armchair.

Cushions, Stitching & Detail

The generous seat cushion is defined by a stitching pattern that converges inwards, combined with a quilted finishing that carries both graphic appeal and comfort in equal measure. The backrest rests on the seat and is finished with tone-on-tone double stitching in an envelope-style layout, accentuating the piece’s longitudinal form. Every stitch, joint and profile reflects the design ethos that merges furniture, architecture and graphic language into one coherent gesture, consistent across the entire Orion family.

Base & Floating Effect

The armchair rests on a perimeter frame with rounded corners, available in chrome or Black Coffee finished metal, or upholstered in leather. A recessed base lifts the piece off the floor, creating the same visual suspension that distinguishes the Orion sofa system: a volume that appears to float above the ground, reinforcing the lightness implicit in the piece’s geometry.
