2025 marks the culmination of a significant year: the tenth anniversary of Clay, the table that more than any other has embodied Desalto’s idea of balance, lightness, and poetic tension. An essential, almost primordial form, still capable today of surprising with its sculptural and silent presence.
To celebrate this milestone, Desalto has chosen to reinterpret Clay in an unprecedented way, further refining its iconic nature. The result is a limited edition featuring a metallic top — a material gesture that enhances reflections, depth, and the vibrations of light, making each piece a unique expression of balance and visual intensity.
A discreet homage, conceived as a new expressive possibility for a project that, over the years, has shaped the language of design.
Mounted on oval-shaped metal sled bases, the seats appear to float in space, creating a visual effect of lightness that enhances the metal finishes, a foundational material of Desalto. The bold, squared, and sculptural design conceals meticulous craftsmanship in the soft elements: the differentiated foam densities have been carefully studied to provide exceptional comfort and support.
CLAY LIMITED EDITION: THE PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION BY MATTEO BALSAMINI
To celebrate the anniversary, Desalto invited Matteo Balsamini to reinterpret Clay through a new photographic shoot. The photographer adopted an essential and contemplative perspective, allowing the table’s form to emerge naturally, suspended between light and material.
Light, treated as a living material, grazes the metallic top and reveals its vibrations, emphasizing the sculptural dimension of the design. Not just a series of images, but a visual narrative that conveys Clay’s presence in an almost meditative state.
Balsamini’s photographs do not describe: they suggest.
And it is within this space of quiet that the limited edition reveals its most intimate and immersive character.
