Design Inspiration & Philosophy

Shinsaku Miyamoto approaches the MARCEL with deep respect for wood as a living material. Construction & Craftsmanship

The frame is constructed in solid walnut or oak, materials chosen for their strength and beauty. The back panel employs laminated walnut or laminated oak, a technique that achieves the necessary curve whilst maintaining structural stability. This combination of solid and laminated construction demonstrates sophisticated woodworking knowledge, using each technique where it performs best. Finishing Options

MARCEL is offered in an extensive range of finishes that allow the wood’s character to be expressed in different ways. Walnut options include oil finish NL paired with polyurethane finish D/WN for the back panel, as well as polyurethane finishes in mGE and mSB. Oak finishes span from oil finish NL and WH to polyurethane options including NL, mWH, BK, mBK, and mTG. Many finishes offer the possibility of contrasting the frame with the back panel, such as oil finish NL frames paired with polyurethane finish BK or mBK back panels, creating subtle visual interest through finish variation.

Upholstery Selection

The seat upholstery is available in leather and covering fabric, providing comfort whilst complementing the wooden frame. The back upholstery similarly offers leather and fabric options, allowing for cohesive or contrasting material combinations.
