Gallotti&Radice Admira Prestige storage cabinet

Silvia Gallotti designed Admira Prestige for Gallotti&Radice, a tall storage cabinet that treats its doors as a luminous surface. The carcass is lacquered wood, while the doors and back panels are tempered extralight glass laid with metal leaf by hand. Standing 120 centimetres on each side at the front, it holds books, glassware or objects behind a glass face that catches the light.

Design Inspiration & Philosophy

Silvia Gallotti builds Admira Prestige on a contrast between weight and shine. The lacquered wood carcass is solid and grounded, while the doors and back panels shimmer, finished in tempered extralight glass covered in metal leaf through a process the brand keeps in house. Applied by hand, the surface holds fine, irregular variation, and light moves across it as the viewer shifts position. The cabinet stores and displays at once, a quiet container that also performs.

Metal Leaf Doors

The doors and back panels are the heart of the piece. Each is made from 6 millimetre tempered extralight glass and covered, by hand, in aluminium leaf in the tone “Saturno Siderale”, in gold leaf, or in copper leaf called “Rosso Marte”. The handcraft leaves a warm, slightly uneven metallic depth that a machined finish cannot reach. It sits behind the panels, protected by them.

Glass Finishes

Beyond the metal leaf, the doors come in two further treatments. One sets the extralight glass with a ceramic effect, a glossy brushed polyester in the colour “Terra di Borgogna”. The other, a total colour version, finishes the front to match the carcass exactly. Each keeps the same form and proportions, so the choice is one of mood, from reflective and handworked to flat and tonal.

Interior and Shelves

Inside, the cabinet holds two shelves in 8 millimetre tempered extralight glass as standard, clear enough to keep the interior open and the contents in view. Shaped shelves in the same material can be made to order for a particular arrangement. Set against the metal leaf doors, objects on the transparent shelves appear to rest in mid air, lit by whatever the leaf reflects.
