Design Concept
GamFratesi approached Barrel as a piece capable of asserting itself as an iconic presence in the space it inhabits: versatile and cross-disciplinary, moving between contemporary and eclectic settings with equal ease. The retro reference is present but never dominant. It sits within Barrel’s silhouette as an energy rather than a quotation, lifted into something more current and considered by the precision of the construction and the quality of the upholstery. Minotti describes it as reinterpreting retro inspiration with a sophisticated sensibility.
Cantilevered Metal Frame
The tubular metal frame is cantilevered in structure, deliberately exposed and suspended rather than concealed within the upholstered body. It mirrors the silhouette of the chair with a sleek, dynamic line and transcends its structural role to become a defining design element. The cantilever also provides a subtle springiness that enhances the physical perception of both softness and lightness when seated, giving Barrel an almost breathing quality that purely padded armchairs cannot replicate.
Cushions & Stitching
Backrest and seat are two distinct cushions: slim in outline yet richly proportioned, carefully conceived to offer harmonious, cocooning comfort.
