The Saki “Cord” Outdoor seating system by nendo brings the organic sensibility of its indoor predecessor to open air settings, with wicker effect woven cord panels forming sinuous backrests and armrests that evoke the image of blooming flowers. Wide ranging in scope, the system encompasses 2, 3 and 4 seat sofas, islands in both fixed and swivel configurations, armchairs with and without armrests, and benches designed for flexible exterior arrangements.
Description
Design Inspiration & Philosophy
Nendo drew on the Japanese word for bloom — Saki — to shape a system where each backrest and armrest panel opens like a petal around the seated figure. The garden version faithfully carries this botanical concept outdoors: petal shaped panels in woven wicker effect cord shelter soft seat and back cushions, creating the same enveloping quality as the indoor collection. A perimeter piping in the same upholstery material traces the volumes, and a fine tailoring detail at the top of each corner cushion creates a well balanced, harmonious finish.
Woven Cord Support Panels
The Saki “Cord” panels feature Ø 12 mm tubular stainless steel covered in Ø 5 mm woven wicker effect matt fibre, available in four colour options. The stainless steel support panels carry a bronze colour epoxy powder coat with glossy anti fingerprint finish. The resulting surface has the hand of natural wicker with the durability and weather resistance of polypropylene, making Saki “Cord” Outdoor as practical as it is characterful.
Comfort, Cushions & Covers
The soft seat offers exceptional comfort, further deepened by enveloping back cushions that rest gently against the petal shaped panels. Backrest cushion padding combines viscose fibre with a core insert of high resilience variable density polyurethane foam, contoured for optimal adhesion to the support panels. All cushions are enclosed in water repellent polyester upholstery to protect from moisture, with weather resistant zippers and thread throughout. Seat and backrest cushions are fully removable.
Island Elements & Swivel Bases
The particularly cosy island elements, available in seven configuration models, are offered in fixed or 360° swivel versions. The swivel islands rest on a perimeter base in sheet stainless steel varnished pewter colour with a glossy anti fingerprint finish, mounted on rigid polyamide castors with a thermoplastic polyurethane strip. The die cast aluminium curved feet across the standard range are varnished pewter, complementing the enfolding silhouette of the entire system.
