Minotti Orion modular sofa system
The Minotti Orion, designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri and introduced as part of the 2026 Collection, is a modular seating system built around overlapping volumes and unexpected geometric cuts. Drawing on a subtle reference to constellations, its independent elements arrange themselves according to both orthogonal and oblique axes, producing configurations that shift, break apart and reassemble through a versatile range of rectangular, square and trapezoidal modules.
Description
Design Concept
Tagliaferri describes Orion as a system that occupies space with freedom and purpose: rigour coexisting with supple elegance, where the fluidity of diagonal forms and the rhythm of tilted surfaces produce inviting shapes and graceful lines. The overall spatial vision draws on echoes of John Lautner’s architecture, modules that interact as autonomous micro-architectures freed from conventional layouts. The result is a quiet manifesto of fluid, unconventional living.
Seat Cushions & Stitching
The seat cushions are generous in volume and defined by a stitching pattern that converges inwards, combined with a quilted finishing that enhances both graphic appeal and comfort. The backrest, resting directly on the seat, accentuates the system’s longitudinal development and is finished with tone-on-tone double stitching in an envelope-style layout. Every joint, profile and stitch reflects a design ethos that merges furniture, architecture and graphic language into a single coherent gesture.
Base & Frame
Each configuration rests on a perimeter frame with rounded corners, available in chrome or Black Coffee finished metal, or upholstered in leather. A recessed base lifts the entire composition off the floor, creating the impression that the volumes are suspended above the ground. Integrated surfaces merge with discretion, maintaining a pure and uninterrupted flow across even the most complex arrangements.
Module Types & Configurations
Available module types within the Orion system:
– Rectangular modules, standard and extended lengths, upholstered in fabric or leather
– Square modules for corner and compositional use
– Trapezoidal modules introducing oblique geometry to any arrangement
– Perimeter base in chrome, Black Coffee metal or leather upholstery
– Full Minotti fabric and leather range available across all modules
Perfect For
– Large living rooms where an architecturally resolved modular system defines the spatial composition
– Interiors with strong architectural character and a preference for geometric, graphic detailing
– Projects where the sofa reads as a landscape element rather than a conventional seating arrangement
– Collectors and design enthusiasts drawn to Tagliaferri’s constellation-inspired spatial thinking
– Hospitality environments requiring a modular seating island with a commanding visual identity
– Designers specifying a system where oblique and orthogonal axes co-exist in a single configuration
Orion occupies space with the authority of a built thing. Its volumes overlap, its axes tilt and its stitching marks each surface with graphic precision. A sofa system that carries its own architecture.
