The Baxter Dabliou Open Air collection is a tribute to the covered verandas and sheltered terraces of legendary Italian seaside resorts of the 1960s, reimagined by Studiopepe for contemporary exterior living. The collection comprises an armchair and a sunbed, each built on a metal tube frame that draws geometric structures in space with what Baxter describes as timeless balance: visual lightness combined with reassuring sculptural presence. Studiopepe & Design Reference
Studiopepe’s starting point was the atmosphere of the Italian Riviera in its mid-century heyday: an era when the boundary between interior and exterior was treated as an opportunity rather than a problem, and outdoor furniture carried the same formal ambition as the rooms it extended. Dabliou channels that spirit through metal tubing, a material that Baxter uses here as both structure and graphic element, its geometric lines readable from a distance and precise at close range.
Metal Tube Frame
The masterful use of metal tubing is, in Baxter’s own description, the centrepiece of the Dabliou project. The tubular frame draws clean geometric lines through the air around the seated or reclined body, creating a visual structure that reads as architectural while remaining physically open and light. This contrast between the rigour of the frame and the softness of the upholstered surfaces is where the collection’s character sits.
Spaces & Use
Dabliou is designed specifically for transitional spaces: covered verandas, winter gardens, porches and sheltered terraces where the piece interacts with natural light and the horizon beyond. Baxter does not position it for fully exposed exterior use.
